Linoleum kitchen flooring is one of the oldest flooring materials around and it has shown it can stand the test of time. Gone are the days where linoleum was available in just white, black, and grey today there are more than 200 different colors, designs, and patterns to choose from, some manufactures even allow you to design your own.

Made of a combination of linseed oil, sawdust, limestone, and pigments of color all bound together with jute fiber linoleum is also considered environmentally friendly and it also has a natural resistance to bacteria due to the materials it is made with. On the downside because of the natural ingredients it has a tendency to change color so make sure that you plan for this when you are thinking out your kitchen flooring choices.

Linoleum is well-suited for kitchens because of its durability, strength, resistance to fire and water, and ease of cleanup and maintenance. All of these benefits are often overlooked because of its history as a boring option for the home but that is no longer the case you are now able to get just about anything you are looking for with linoleum flooring so it is something that you might want to look into.

Cons:

As far as the cost go linoleum kitchen floors will run you somewhere between $4-8.50 per square foot with installation being an extra cost unless you try to tackle it as a do-it-yourself project. Installation is not as easy as laminate or wood flooring however it is not impossible for a normal homeowner with some DIY experience.
